USA ATHLETES INTERNATIONAL

What was the most fun part of the trip?

Morgan: I would have to say the most fun of this trip was just experiencing a different culture and seeing how people in other parts of the world live. It was fun bartering in the markets and having to try to talk with the language barrier. I also really enjoyed getting to see the ancient ruins of the Incan Indians and how the people's lives still revolve around what the Incans did years ago.

Kelly: I enjoyed getting to see the different ways people live. Just to get to experience a different culture and compete against them in a game that both cultures can relate to made the trip an experience of a life time.

How did you benefit as a soccer player?

Morgan: As a soccer player I benefitted greatly by getting to play and international team and see how they are coached differently, warm-up and their special traditions. They have a different style of play, but as a player I had to learn alot and quickly. Nobody on the team knew eachother very well and so not only did we have to figure out the other team, but we had to also figure out eachother. We had to bond and play in a very short amount of time. As a player this was a fun challenge that the entire team had to overcome.

Kelly: Every team has a different playing style and every teammate has unique elements to bring to the game. Being able to go into a different culture and experience the kind of playing styles and desires that they had opened my eyes to a whole new way to play. It's still soccer of course, but I realized that even though they weren't a highly skilled team they had the drive, the desire and the want to beat us and show the U.S. what their made of. We may feel the same way here but we definitely don't have the kind of dedication that they seemed to have. More dedication is definitely the key.

Are the two of you closer because of your experience?

Morgan: Definitely. The two of us were already really good friends, but there is just somthing about traveling to another country and playing soccer that bonds two people together. It's been about a month now since we have been back and we still have inside jokes or look at pictures taken on that trip and it just reminds us of the experience we got to share.

Kelly: I would like to think that Morgan and I are definitely closer. We roomed together there. We protected each other from the scary people who would follow us trying to either sell us stuff or take our pictures. We took care of each other when one or the other got sick, either from the altitude, the icky food or, of course, CFS. We are much closer friends and its made it easier to connect on the field as well.
